Scott receiving his award was a highlight of the well attended meeting that enthusiastically planned for the coming election campaign.
On behalf of the executive , ALP Abroad President Paul Smith presented Scott with an engraved pewter mug that awarded Scott life membership 'for his outstanding service to the Labor cause.'
Scott is only the second member to be honoured with life membership, the other being Mike Steele, who has been active in the society since its early day as the ALP society of the UK in the late seventies and still very active in election campaigns.ALP Abroad changed its name from the ALP society of the UK in 2005 ,which itself was founded in 1976 following the Whitlam dismissal.
Scott in thanking ALP Abroad members has reflected on what being active in ALP Abroad had meant to him.
"I first rocked up to ALP Abroad at the AGM in 2001 and was very quickly strapped on to the committee to run the 2001 campaign. Since then, I've been on the executive continually, in various incantations as Secretary, Treasurer, Events co-ordinator, Campaign Manager and now Vice President.
Anyway, it was one of the wisest moves I made after I shifted to the UK, as ALP Abroad has provided me with many long lasting frindships, memories of campaigns, meetings, pub nights, film screenings and election parties.
I'm slightly dissapointed I won't be here for the election. It would have been cool to finally taste victory here in London.
Having said that, I'm heading back to what is looking more and more like a Howard-less Australia with my lovely wife to be, so there's a bucketload on the positive side of the ledger."
